This annual event was. this year, held in Plymouth, as unfortunately, neither the East or North were unable to raise teams.  All the records to determine the years'hosts had disappeared so the Plymouth Club stepped into the breach and provided a splendid venue at the Plymouth Bridge Club together with sumptuous refreshments which were no doubt supervised and served by Mrs Tatam..  The Bridge Club afforded splendid accommodation for the event, with each game played on an individual table and plenty of circulation room. Our thanks are due to Tony Tatam who made all the arrangements in his usual impeccable manner.

The West and the South contested the event with teams of twelve players.  The split between the regions is difficult to define but the West team were predominately formed by members of the Plymouth Club and the South by the other clubs that form the Torbay and District League.  It is a measure of the popularity of the event that some players had already been involved in the county games played the previous day.  It is to be hoped that the East and North Regions will make a special effort to raise teams next year in order that the event reverts to the format contemplated when the event was first devised.

Although the trophy was won by the West region by quite a handsome margin, this did not appear to be the outcome after the match had been running for the first two hours, as the results then recorded were that each team had scored four points.  However, from the remaining four games that all went to the wire, the West scored 3½ points.  Provisiion was made for duplicated score-sheets, and so the games played can be followed below and the reader can form an opinion on the quality of play and the virtue of the result.

Many photographs were taken, and we are able to publish some of these below.
