LIECHTENSTEIN OPEN SENIORS 2012
Quite obviously the whole experience was greatly enjoyed and our correspondence from Kenneth makes the following comments:
" The journey to Liechtenstein is very easy. Flying to Zurich took about one and a half hours.
Then a ten minute train ride to Zurich H.B.
Change trains then a fifty minute journey non stop to Sargans travelling through some very beautiful scenery and for long periods beside a lovely lake. After arriving at Sargans one can take a 12 bus to Vadus or in our case a taxi to the hotel
The hotel was excellent. The room had a balcony where we could sit and admire the snow capped mountains that surround Liechtenstein. The staff were very helpful even informing us that it was possible to purchase a seven day senior bus ticket for only 17 CHF (about 12 pounds) and the bus service was excellent.
The playing venue was a typical community hall.
There was ample space between each board and between each table. The lighting was excellent and food and drink was available as long as play continued
Also the organisers produced a daily tournament bulletin with a selection of games.
Bernard Cafferty informed me yesterday by email that the name of the tournament winner Okhotnik means hunter in Russian.
As to individual results. Dinah lost in round one to a much stronger opponent. Then beat a lower rated player in round two and followed this with seven draws. A typical Dinah performance.
Oliver Jackson won five games, draw three games and lost just one one game to the tournament winner Okhotnik. Oliver had the same score as Pribyl and myself but was placed fourth on tie break.
My results were uncharacteristic with six wins, two loses and one draw in the last round with Pribyl.
The dates of next years Liechtenstein Seniors are 3rd to 11th May 2013. Dinah and I hope to be playing there next year. Perhaps some Seniors from Devon will be interested in playing."
