CORUS 2006

In an exciting final round, Anand, using a novelty in his game with Boris Gelfand, managed to win after a long struggle, whereas Topalov drew.  This meant that they tied for first place. As there is no play-off or tie-break they share the first and second place prize.

Michael Adams drew and stopped the rot that was eroding his status in the world rankings, sharing third place with Ivanchuck.   

Magnus Carlsen, the Norwegian wunderkind, won the B tournament with Motylev, so a decision has to be made on which of these players will be eligible for the grandmaster tournament of 2007.
