A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY

THE PAIGNTON PREMIER 1956

After the big bang of the First Congress held in 1950 in which the ex-World Champion Max Euwe participated but lost out to Harry Golombek, the Premier settled down into a mostly local affair.

However in 1956 there was another foreign intervention in the shape of the South African, W. Heidenfeld.  Again, the winner remained home produced as the event was won by the Exeter based F.E.A. Kitto.
