NOTE FROM BRIAN HEWSON - CAPTAIN OF DEVON
Devon severely handicapped by tailbacks from the closure of junction 25 of the M5, resulting in some of our team starting with a severe time deficit. Indeed John Wheeler was delayed 1.5 hours and arrived just after the default time having driven all the way from Gosport. Two other late arrivals played very well - Mark Abbot won a piece early; Kevin Hurst played very solidly against the highest graded player in the Jamboree, David Buckley (201), and managed to see his way through to the time control with the flag vertical, as Buckley perhaps was playing the clock instead of the position and blundered a piece>>well played Kevin, a crucial result.
Devon started with a brisk win from 15 year old Jeff Leung and there were also good wins from Steve Homer, John Stephens, Trefor Thynne and myself.
Unfortunately Dave Regis, Bill Ingham and Dominic Mackle blundered material and Alan Brusey lost in a time scramble.
