NOTICE TO MEMBERS

Our last meeting on 5th. May saw the season 2014/15 draw to a close and the start of the 2015/16 season.  This will include the Summer Tournament which was also launched on the 5th May.  The AGM will be held on 19th** May at the Alice Cross Centre and you are urged to attend.  Entries to the Summer Tournament are still invited and as per last year it is open to members of other clubs in the area.

** Please note that this was previously, and erroneously, stated to be 12th May.

JOHN ARRIS REPORTS - 21st January 2015

Another large attendance meant having to bring in more tables, as when we have a match, space is at a premium.

Alan Webster captained the division 4 team to an excellent 3.5-0.5 victory over Newton Abbot. Mark Cockerton drew on board one whilst victories for Gwynne, White and Webster secured the victory.

In the internal knockout Norman Tidy defeated Mike Prior to book himself a second round tie with John Ariss , whilst Bill Frost became the first player to reach the quarter final by defeating Dennis Ayress.

In the Championship , Alan Brusey benefitted when his 2 nearest rivals Hindom and Ingham fought out a draw, whilst Graham Bramley proved how tight it is in this division with a victory over Charles Doidge.

In the challengers, Mike Carter moved off the bottom with a victory over 'draw specialist’, Andy Fisher.

In the handicap victories for Hayven-Sadler (first win of the season !),Luterbacher, Tindal and David Landricombe tightened things up In the top half of the table.

As the club’s membership has substantially increased it appears that next season we will be reverting to 3 divisions. The make-up will be as follows.

The bottom player in the championship will be replaced by the winner of the challengers, the player finishing 7th in the championship will play off with the runner up in the championship, the winner qualifying to play in the championship.

All other players will be listed according to grade order and be split at the halfway stage and allocated to the challengers and minor respectively.

Any questions regarding the club competitions, tables etc – please address to me (John Ariss) as any omissions or errors are far more likely my doing, not the website

Regards

John
