CORNWALL CONGRESS 2008 BY BOB JONES

Controller Ian George, flanked by local organiser, Anton Barkhuysen, make the announcements at the start of the final round.	Colin Sellwood puzzling as to how White's knight got to c4 after he'd only had one move. Don't ask......	The top 2 games from Rd. 5 Davis Saqui responds to Gary Trudeau's opening play, already assured of the Championship. In the background, Lloyd Retallick (l) on the way to a narrow victory over Simon Addicott, in which he had to mate with just 2 bishops on the board and not many more seconds on the clock.	Noted chess problemist, the Revd. Dr. Christopher Reeve, in play against Colin Gardiner, in the final round of the Falmouth Cup. After a fighting a long rearguard action, Reeve mated his opponent, almost without either player realising it.


Cornwall CCA Secretary and event controller, Ian George (l) presents the Falmouth Cup to Stefan Leaver.	Members of the Newquay Club, who won the team prize, the Centenary Cup, inaugurated in 2002, the centenary of the formation of the Cornwall Association.	New Cornish Champion, David Saqui, of Penwith.	Jeremy Menadue (l) on his way to a draw against Simon Bartlett. Top seed and former champion, Menadue had a bad congress by his own high standards, but at least his 1st round loss opened the top section right up.
